Before joining Ronin Thai, this member was going through an extremely difficult period in his life. He had become socially isolated, lost much of his confidence and was struggling with his mental wellbeing, motivationand sense of identity.

Encouraged by a friend, he attended his first session alone. Although initially nervous and intimidated, he was quickly made to feel welcome by other students. His first training session was challenging but he completed it and came back the very next day.

That second session became one of his favourite memories. After seeing him return following a particularly tough cardio session, Coach Yusaf jokingly said, “You’ve come back then!” It was a small moment, but one that marked the beginning of his commitment to Ronin.

Over the following 18 months, training became an important source of structure, connection and personal development. He improved his fitness and energy levels, formed meaningful friendships and developed greater confidence, resilience and independence.

One of his biggest achievements was travelling alone to Thailand to attend a Muay Thai training camp something he once could never have imagined having the confidence to do.

His journey has now come full circle. Having once needed encouragement and support himself, he now mentors and encourages other students, volunteers his time and helps at Ronin events.

He continues to set himself new challenges, both inside and outside the gym, and is now working towards his ambition of competing in a fight.

In his own words:

“Come and join. When you walk into Ronin, you are welcomed. There is no ego and you are never made to feel like a burden. Everyone supports one another.”    Adult Member
