A parent's story

Watching Confidence Grow

Having trained in Muay Thai himself when he was younger, this parent understood the benefits the sport could offer. Initially, he wanted his daughter to take part to improve her fitness and physical health, but over time he began to see changes that went far beyond fitness.

When his daughter first started training, she was very quiet and reserved. She often preferred to stay in the background and initially found training alongside other students difficult. To help her feel secure, her dad trained alongside her during those early sessions.

Gradually, things began to change.

As she became more comfortable at Ronin, she started training with different partners, forming friendships and becoming more willing to express herself. Her dad describes seeing a considerable improvement in her confidence, alongside positive changes in her social skills and overall wellbeing.

For him, one of the most important things about Ronin is the environment surrounding the training. He feels that young people are listened to, encouraged and given opportunities to develop at their own pace.

He has also seen how having a structured physical activity can give young people a positive way to channel their energy, develop confidence and learn to manage challenges. It is something he recognises from his own childhood, when Muay Thai gave him a positive outlet for his own energy.

Their experience at Ronin has also strengthened the relationship between father and daughter. Training became something they could share, and watching his daughter's commitment has even encouraged him to think again about his own health, fitness and returning to training.

For this parent, the impact of Ronin has therefore reached beyond his daughter's Muay Thai development. It has supported her confidence and wellbeing while giving them something positive they can experience together.

In his own words:

“For us, Ronin is more than a place to train. It feels like home and provides a sense of belonging, encouragement and shared purpose.” Parent of a Junior Student
